Spring Ahead

(aka. Get up an hour earlier in the name of spring)

Today I should have stayed in bed spring or not.  I have to admit the sun is shining and it’s a perfect time to take a photo of my weekend project.

Jonathon Adler calls his design aesthetic Happy Chic.  I think I need a name for my aesthetic.  My new project makes me happy and today I could definitely use a little happy.  I have taken an Ikea drawer unit and, in my eyes, made it look a little more Anthropologie-ish.

Happy Anthropologie-ish doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, I’ll have to work on a name.

Ikea dresser

This is the Alex: 9  drawer unit  from Ikea, Can’t wait to show you the after photos, but first some more inspiring…dressers!  Obviously I really want to paint a dresser (and the one I have is already painted).

I found these photos (and many more) at Purchase Worthy.

refinished furniture, interior design

I found this at Sweet Passions on a Thrifty Dime.  The before photo makes me think something more could have been done to accentuate the beautiful detail of this piece.  The after looks a bit flat, but I do love the white on chocolate.  Painting the existing hardware a contrasting colour really looks good.

brown dresser, interior design

It does have a sleek modern look to it painted in a solid brown, I guess it depends where the piece is going.  I wonder if painting the top white (like on that dresser from Young House Love we posted earlier) would improve the after.

white credenza, interior design

I like the technique they used on this credenza over at Vintage Revivals, the black wash really makes the detail pop.  It also gives the piece more of a vintage look, which might not be so great on the brown dresser.  It’s hard to say, but the beauty of painting is, if you don’t like it you can always paint over it.
