Design from a Distance

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

In the past, we have done a couple of interior design projects from a distance.  We are looking into promoting this service and doing more interior design projects online and over the phone.  If this sounds crazy to you, follow along and we will show you how it’s done.  There are a few limitations with regard to the services we offer in this manner.  We won’t be managing any renovations from a distance, nor in most cases, will be able to recommend reliable local trades.

After a phone conversation with the client to discuss the project requirements, we instructed them to send photos and measurements.  For this project we are recommending window coverings and a furniture floor plan.  Here are the photos we received and the measurements.

As you can see by all the overexposed photographs, the second story windows need some kinda treatment.  Mother Nature in all her glory over powers the space with light, too much light to watch TV in fact.  My suggestion to get rid of the TV and fill the space with plants was not the right answer for this particular client : )  They also have a very tricky floor plan with regards to their TV built-in, fireplace, and traffic flow.  The clients have suggested they would like to get rid of their coffee table and have a beautiful rug in front of their seating area (the kind of rug a baby might enjoy playing on).

We should have been a bit more specific when we requested photos of their space, as you can see the client moved their furniture so we could see the space empty (almost empty their furniture is in the kitchen).  We would have preferred photos of the space with their furniture in it so we could see what was, and was not working.

As you can see they included the location of registers and outlets in their floor plan, very important.  We have enough info to get started, and we look forward to keeping you posted with our progress.
